Princess Series pt. 7 - Pocahontas Ch. 1

Title: Pocahontas
Author: shy_mizuno
Rating: PG
Genre: Romance/Drama
Pairing: Kibum/Hankyung
Disclaimer: I own absolutely nothing. Super Junior belong to themselves and Disney interpretation of Pocahontas belongs to Walt Disney.
Summary: Han Geng has always ventured out into the world - but one day, the world ventured to him.

Big Note #1: Ok, so some of you may be wondering why there's ANOTHER Kibum/Hankyung Princess story. Well, when I first got into Super Junior and found out about 'Cinderella' and 'Snow White' I decided to make all of my OTPs into Disney Princesses (thus, this whole SAGA.) It wasn't until I was done that I realized "Oh...Kibum's Snow White." (This is also the reason why EunHae was Aladdin and YeWook was The Little Mermaid.)

Big Note #2: SO!, since Pocahontas is a true story (and since I just went through a semester learning about it) I tried to make it as factual as possible. (As much as I do with any story, but even more so with this.) Yes, there's going to be A LOT OF DISNEY, but I did a little research. And also, there is going to be lines in Chinese Pinyin. I will be translating at the end of the chapters, but just so you know, there will be Chinese. Also, I used the Nanai because Han Geng is descended from the Nanai (instead of being Han Chinese, he is Nanai.)

China, with all of its vast wealth found in its meadows and forests, could be seen as a step from Eden. With the creatures running free, human spirits couldn't be too far behind.

Han Geng, of the Nanai tribe, exemplified that free spirit. Come dawning, he would already be jumping from tree to tree, diving in the water and climbing to even higher and higher points of the cliffs that he made his home.

And it would keep him from the confusing dreams of lately. He climbed, a warm summer morn, across his trees, to one in particular. A grand willow, with its leaves steaming down till you could not see its trunk. He pushed them aside and stared on up at a notch sticking out. The notch looked like a nose, making the tree seem like it had a face. Which is true, because it did. And when Han Geng crossed his leg on a large exposed branch, the tree smiled.

Zao An, Dong Xi Ye Ye.

The smiling tree let a gentle breeze pass through the leaves. “Good Morning, my child. And what has brought you to my forest this day? Certainly, you should be at the shoreline, waiting for your father.”

Han Geng smiled fondly. “Father will be home soon – yes. But I have time.” He lowered his head in memories. “I can not sleep, Grandfather Dong Xi. My dreams...”

“And what sort of dreams are these?” Grandfather Dong Xi asked.

Han Geng sighed. He laid back on the branch, staring up between the green as he recalled the images. “I am standing in the forest. Before me, in the water, an arrow points to the moon. Suddenly, it turns to the sun. The moon, the sun, and it won't stop spinning.” Frustration overtook him and he, as always, groaned and threw an arm over his eyes. “My head can make nothing of this vision.”

“Perhaps your mind doesn't understand because your heart has not seen the problem.” The air blew through; the reeds of a far off river sang like flutes. The leaves brushed across each other like a stick on a drum, so soft but so strong. The world turned to music – none so strong than Grandfather Dong Xi's.

Shijie liaojie ni
You will understand
Listen with your heart
You will understand

Let it break upon you
Like a wave upon the sand

Han Geng felt the spirit's magic fill him and so softly, that spinning arrow dancing behind his eyelids.

Shijie liaojie ni
You will understand

A great long low note, dissonant from the guiding score, broke through. Han Geng stood up and stared through the branches. “My father has returned.” Han Geng faced the tree again. “Thank you, Grandfather Dong Xi.”

The tree smiled gently. “Remember, mine own son. Look upon the world with your heart and a new course will reveal itself.” Han Geng nodded and broke through the treetops, passing over like a critter and a bird on two legs.

Translation: “Zao An, Dong Xi Ye Ye.” - Good Morning, Grandfather Dong Xi. Dong Xi is Shin Dong's birth name in Hanja. Since I want everyone in China (wow, that sounds weird) to be Chinese, I'm using their Chinese names.

Translation: "Shijie liaojie ni" - The world understands you. Grandmother Willow's "quequenatora" means "I understand you" in Powhatan, so I made a version in Chinese.
